PESHAWAR: The construction of a gate at Pakistan-Afghanistan Torkham border will be completed by the first of next month and regular traffic start within a week of it.
Secretary Defence Lt General (Retired) Muhammad Alam Khattak stated while briefing Senate Committee of Defence here on Monday.
He said that the gate would help stop illegal entry into Pakistan as 15,000 to 20,000 people and 900 to 1,200 vehicles daily cross the Torkham border from both sides.
The Secretary Defence said the same mechanism would be established in phases at other five to six crossing points, including Angur Adda.
Committee Chairman Mushahid Hussain Syed said that securing Pakistan-Afghanistan border is in the best interest of the country.
Minister for Defence Khawaja Muhammad Asif said, “There would be no compromise on border management because menace of terrorism cannot be eliminated without effective control on the borders”.
